Grito internacional contra Monsanto se ‘trasplanta’ a 36 países

El próximo 25 de mayo activistas de decenas de países en todo el mundo participarán en una protesta global contra el gigante biotecnológico Monsanto, levantando su voz contra sus excesos contra la naturaleza, los agricultores y los consumidores.
Un total de 298 ciudades de 36 países del mundo serán el escenario de una protesta mundial contra Monsanto, cuyos productos transgénicos, según denuncian los activistas, perjudican la salud, causando cáncer, infertilidad e incluso defectos en los fetos.
Los activistas, convocados por el movimiento Ocupa Monsanto se manifiestan contra la falta de investigación gubernamental sobre los efectos a largo plazo de los productos transgénicos de Monsanto. Es “un conflicto de intereses” que los activistas explican por el hecho de que la Administración de Alimentos y Medicamentos de EE.UU., encargada de garantizar la seguridad alimentaria de la población, “está dirigida por los ex empleados de Monsanto”.
Otra causa de la indignacion de los activistas es la así llamada ‘Ley de Protección de Monsanto’ (Monsanto Protection Act) que niega competencia a las cortes de justicia federales para detener inmediatamente la plantación y venta de cosechas transgénicas.
“Monsanto se ha beneficiado de los subsidios a las empresas y del favoritismo político. Los agricultores orgánicos y pequeños sufren pérdidas, mientras que Monsanto sigue con su monopolio sobre el suministro mundial de alimentos, incluso con sus patentes exclusivas sobre las semillas”, denuncian los activistas.
Los organizadores de las protestas, la mayoría de las cuales se celebrará en EE.UU., subrayan que se trata de una marcha de caracter pacífico y advierten a la gente sobre la posible infiltración de provocadores “contratados para desacreditar a los activistas”.
